Google Gmail increased its free online storage capacity to 2 GB from 1GB, in reponse to Yahoo's recent hike to 1GB from 250MB, notes Om Malik. Assuming Moore's Law in action, it's not going to be long before we can put our entire PC hard drive online for free. Then Google will be a little bit closer to developing its speculated online operating system. The impact will probably reach beyond Google vs. Yahoo, and Google vs. the 1-cent-per-MB online storage companies, etc. It will have far ranging disruptive implications, to Microsoft, EMC, IBM and beyond the technology sector. Something to think about and write on later. Perhaps when I'm done analyzing beer companies for an MBA class (blech). See also Tozzo's take on the subject.
Update: It's just as I and others thought! Not only is Google going after the entire Internet, but it's going to start monetizing the entire Brazilian rainforest as well, not to mention introduce a whole line of mind-control beverages. Touche Google. And yes, rofl funny too. Ingenious reponse. Also see this from Malik, one of my favorites.
