Open Invitation: Forming Mosaic Equity Research Group
MBA students and executives around the country are working together to form an independent equity research group. Please join us, either as an affiliate group, a commenter, or advisor.
What is equity research?
The practice of valuing stocks.
What is mosaic theory?
Taking non-material information from a variety of sources and creating meaningful observations out of it.
The mission of the club?
The core mission will be to market ourselves and get jobs by publishing quality research reports and commentary on a website.
The scope is much bigger and exciting
I am already talking to a number of technology business writers, venture capitalists, analysts and MBA students from other schools to explore ways in which we could together use web logs (blogs) and other Internet information sharing technology to acquire, filter and produce insightful research. See below for links to some current blog discussions on equity research. This club could become a platform to launch an independent equity research firm.
Who should join?
This is not just for equity analysts or for finance people. This is for anyone who enjoys or is exploring careers in:
marketing research
marketing
public relations
sales
institutional sales
consulting, technology and other
statiticians
data mining
web site designers
web site promotion
colloborative software
etc.
Committment?
As little or as much as you want.
This could be a lot of fun. I'm working on the club charter over the weekend. Please let me know if you would like to help shape the charter or help in other ways.

I have strong feelings in this area and know first hand that the buy-side does not get what they need often enough from the sell-side (or independents). I think it's coming to a head and expect to see some real changes in research on the street.
Check out this more specific link on our site for a case study of quantitative research distribution:

Please keep me included on this project. I would be happy to help in any way possible. I have 19 years experience as an IT manager on the sell- and buy-side, and now (the last 3 years) as a smallish development shop building solutions which put technology delivery power into the hands of the business...
Can't wait to see some motion on this!

Currently I am doing Master's in financial engineering in Singapore. It's more of a quantitative course where i have learned statistics, time series forecasting, stochastic calculus apart from basic finance modules.I have passion for equity research.I would be very much intrested to know more details.
I am not sure how are you planning to use weblobs for equity research, what i understand is that it is some some sort of community reasearch like we have open source software development.Different persons can contribute in different areas and we all have access to whatever has been done so far.So everyone can read, comment and add their own contribution. There has to be some defined process for changing and maintening the data/reports.someone has to review the changes before they get commited.I find little details on site how its all going to work.
Keep me posted on further discussions.
cheers
